Airsoft Guns Mimic Their Real Brothers
February 5, 2010 – 2:36 amWalk into any toy shop and will find an array of airsoft guns that looks just like real weapons. This super realistic aspect makes these weapons very popular with children as well as grown ups, and sales thereof have sky rocketed in the last few years.
Initially these guns were produced to be used in sport where competitors engage in realistic situations and scenarios designed to give the players that adrenalin rush they are after. The mechanics of these guns differ quite a lot from real weapons, in that the propellant used to fire a bullet can never be gun powder.
Gas forms the propellant in these airsoft guns, but other models fire using a spring system or compressed air. Bullets travel at different speeds from different firing mechanisms.
The most popular version of these guns use propane gas to fire them. A canister inside the gun must be filled with compressed propane in order to keep the weapon working. The propane gas has a unique smell to it once fired, and some players claim that this smells just like gun powder being fired.
To add to the realism of these airsoft guns, a smoking cap can be used which produces white smoke once the gun has been fired. Dedicated players of the sport use these visual clues to determine who fired the last shot.
When propane gas is released from a pressured container, this gas quadruples in volume within micro seconds. This raises the pressure in the barrel forcing the bullet out at incredible speeds. Guns with spring mechanisms do not have this sort of power and are selling less every day.
Bullets are stored in an array of magazines that fit into the gun just like the real thing. Old style airsoft guns need reloading after every shot it delivers but newer models can fire at the same rate as semi automatic weapons.
Although these toys are quite harmless, the real danger lies in the fact that you and I will not be able to tell the difference between the toy and real gun. It is only when you lift the weapon that the huge difference in weight tells you which is which.
Criminals bank on you not knowing the difference between the real deal and their play weapon. Many robberies are carried out with these fake guns, as victims are too scared to question the authenticity of the weapon they are staring at during an armed robbery.
What bothers those concerned about his weapon, is that the inventors and manufactures of these strange toys, namely Japan, were quick to slap strict legislation on who may own or use Airsoft guns. They are aware of the problems they are causing, but still they produce them in mass.
Do not be fooled, these guns can blind you should you be shot from close range. Children should never play with them without a parent being present.
Factories making these fake weapons can not keep up with demand as orders stream in daily.
